Key Skills
From the NACE career competency skills, I especially excel and have developed my knowledge in the following: communication, teamwork, technology, and cultural engagement.
Communication Skills

Both my research and international experiences have been key to developing communication skills in a variety of settings, including professional, academic, and culturally diverse circumstances.
-
As a research assistant, I have presented at multiple research symposiums and journal clubs to my academic peers and mentors to facilitate understanding of our lab's research in the broader scientific community of UF and Florida.
-
While studying abroad in Ireland, I was an intern at a local creche providing subsidized childcare in the form of field trips, daycare, and activities, requiring empathetic but firm communication with over 25 children that ensured child safety and enjoyment each day.
-
In my role as a Center for Undergraduate Research Peer Advisor, I hold office hours twice a week dedicated to friendly yet professional communication with my peers, assisting over 20 students within 2 semesters with finding research opportunities, improving their resumes, and more.
Teamwork
I am someone who not only is effective in team settings, but who enjoys them in her everyday work.
-
In my lab I act as a team player through taking the initiative to create essential organizational materials such as protocols and training new students on procedures, allowing for smooth personnel transitions in the team.
-
As a long-time Eco-Gator officer (Treasurer, VP Of Operations, etc.) I have worked with a 6+ person team for multiple years to organize events and meetings focused on combining sustainability and business to over 30+ members.
-
Through my international coursework, I was a member of over 10 group projects focused on learning Spanish through speaking, where I organized multiple practice sessions for each, culminating in every group member receiving a score over 90%.

Technology

As someone who needs to be learning something new to remain engaged with my work, I love challenging myself to master new technologies that could be helpful.
-
I frequently must utilize, debug, and manipulate specialized laboratory programs to analyze larges amounts of experiment data, including Prism, PHASE, Y-Fly, and a variety of other open source applications.
-
Optimized the Excel for daycare applications and waitlists in my Ireland internship through the use of conditional formatting, automatic population, and formulas, integrating technology into this system to make it more efficient for over 14 creche workers even after I returned to the United States.
-
Currently, am working to apply my business-oriented Python knowledge to learn how the R programming language environment can be applied to my future research.
Global and Cultural Engagement
I do not only engage with a variety of other cultures through my love of travel, but also in my day to day academic and professional lives.
-
The International Scholars Program at UF has developed my cross-cultural learning in a multitude of ways. For more information, see the "Global Experiences" page of this site.
-
My laboratory work has given me the opportunity to attend lectures by a variety of scientists, including the prestigious Luttege Lecture Series here at UF, which commonly invites professors and researchers from other countries to share their perspectives and findings.
